Abstract

1446031 Reciprocating pumps VALVE SYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL Inc 6 Aug 1973 [13 Sept 1972] 37192/73 Heading F1A In a hydraulically-actuated, flexible-chamber pump, a piston 50 reciprocates a liquid column acting on a tubular diaphragm 74 which acts through another liquid column to expand and contract a pumping tubular diaphragm 94. Piston 50 is driven by an electric motor 12 acting via worm 18, worm-wheel 28, eccentric 36 and a boss-head 44 detachably connected by pin 52 to piston 50, pin 52 being accessible via plug 53. A second pump may be driven by crosshead 44, as indicated in Fig. 1. The piston reciprocates in a sleeve 54 having an annular groove 60 communicating via ports 61 with an actuating liquid reservoir 22. Grooves 56 in the piston connect the working chamber of the piston to groove 60 to terminate the effective working stroke, sleeve 54 being axially adjustable, by rotating knob 62, to adjust the effective stroke. An indicator 66 shows the selected stroke setting. Movement of diaphragms 74, 94 is limited by perforated sleeves 80, 82, 96, surfaces 78, 98 of which by be curved, as shown, or straight Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown). A pressure relief valve 84, for the liquid column between piston 50 and diaphragm 74, discharges into a transparent viewing dome 86. Pumping chamber 100 has inlet and outlet ball-valves 104, 106. In Fig. 8 (not shown), diaphragms 74 and 94 are disposed coaxially.
