Abstract
1,170,090. Reciprocating pumps. WHITE MOTOR CORP. Oct.27, 1967 [Nov.4, 1966], No.48928/67. Heading F1A. [Also in Division G3] In a radial piston pump having an annular inlet manifold 26 communicating with the pump cylinders 22 via elongated inlet ports 65 controlled by the pistons 55, a valve member 80 is rotatable against the ported face 74 of the cylinder block 12 to throttle the inlet ports 65, and thereby control the pump output. Valve member 80 may be actuated manually or by a pilot valve-controlled servopiston responsive to the pump output pressure, Figs. 3, 6 and 7 (not shown), (see Division G3). Portions 90 of the valve member 80, Fig. 5, out to control the flow cross-section of the inlet ports. Spring-loaded pressure blocks 84 bias the valve member against the cylinder block 12, which is located in a recess in the pump housing by anchor plates 16. The pistons 55 are reciprocated by an eccentric 54 on a shaft 32 mounted in roller bearings 35, 40, a retainer ring 60 engaging piston grooves 64 to effect their return strokes. Delivery takes place through spring-loaded lift valves 66 to an annular discharge manifold 24. Lubrication of the drive mechanism is effected by working fluid from the inlet manifold 26 passing through passages 92 in the valve member 80.
