Abstract

851,701. Swash-plate pumps. NEW PATENTS Ltd., SILBERSTEIN, V., and EASTES, J. C. Oct. 9, 1956 [July 12, 1935], No. 20159/55. Class 102(1). An hydraulic pump comprises a shaft 8, Fig. 1, on which are mounted two swash-plates 9, 10 arranged to reciprocate opposed pistons 13, 14 in cylinder blocks 2 and 3. The piston 13 has a wide annular groove 15 which registers in turn with inlet and outlet ports 16 and 17, so arranged that communication with one port ceases as communication with the other commences. The delivery of the pump is maintained at a predetermined constant by axial movement of the shaft 8 which varies the proportion of each revolution of the swashplate during which the groove 15 of piston 13 registers with the inlet and outlet 16, 17 respectively. The shaft 8 is biased by a spring 43 in a hollow differential piston 37 having one side 40 of smaller area than the other side 41, the two sides being connected by a bleed passage 42. The delivery from the outlet 17 is connected to the smaller side of 40 of the piston 37 and through passages 57 and 45, Fig. 2, to one side of a plunger 47 biased by a spring 50. The larger side 41 of the piston is connected to a port 54 in a cylinder member 60. Any decrease in the delivery pressure will cause a greater force to act on the large side 41 of the piston 37 to move the shaft to the right so that the groove 15 will communicate with outlet 17 for a larger tie up to a maximum where the groove 15 communicates with the inlet and outlet 16, 17 for equal times. Any increase in the delivery pressure above a predetermined valve will cause the plunger 47 to move to the left so that liquid from the large side 41 of the piston 37 will pass through port 54, a recess 53 of the plunger and port 52 to the pump inlet and thus the piston 37 and shaft 8 will move to the left. The delivery pressure is determined by the loading of spring 50 which is adjusted by nut 51. Lubrication is provided by grooves in the piston and pads 12 and passages 24, 25 leading to a groove 26.
