Abstract

1318196 Fuel injection pumps C A V Ltd 11 Sept 1970 [30 Sept 1969] 47970/69 Heading F1A In a fuel injection pump having radial pumping pistons 13 reciprocable in a rotary block 12 by a cam ring 17 angularly adjustable in a cylindrical recess 11, the ring is of insufficient thickness to resist distortion by the pistons 13 whereby the ring distorts into contact with the cylindrical recess 11 and minimises the torque reaction transmitted to a piston 21 for adjusting the ring's position. The co-operating surfaces of the recess and the cam ring are knurled. The piston 21 takes up a position which depends on the output pressure of a pump 30, supplying through a regulator 31, the left hand end of a spool 24 slidable within the piston 21. If the pressure increases the spool 24 shifts to the right uncovering a port 33 in the piston 21 to pump pressure. Thus the left hand end of the piston 21 is pressurized through a passage 32, whereby the piston 21 moves to close the port 33. A subsequent fall in pressure connects the port 32 to a discharge port 34.
