306,985. Bennett, E. A. Nov. 30, 1927. Pumps with reciprocating and rotating pistons. -A double-acting pump comprises a cylinder 1 in which a, rotating piston 9 is reciprocated by a fixed pin 12 engaging a cam groove 11 attached to the piston, the piston and its rod 5 being slidably mounted. Two sets of spiral grooves 20 - - 23 are arranged in the periphery of the piston, the grooves 20, 22 being connected to one end of the cylinder by passages 14, 15 in the piston, and the grooves 23, 21 to the other end by passages 18, 19 in the piston. During the stroke towards the left, the liquid in the left end of the cylinder is delivered through the passage 14, groove 20, and port 7, while liquid is drawn into the right end through the port 8, groove 23, and passage 18. During the stroke towards the right, liquid in the right end of the cylinder is delivered through the passage 19, groove 21, and port 7, while liquid is drawn into the left end through the port 8, groove 22, and passage 15. During each stroke, the piston rotates half a revolution. In another form, there is a cam on each end of the piston engaging a fixed pin at each end of the cylinder. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the ends of the cylinder are connected to the inlet and delivery ports 8, 7 by passages 14, 18, and chambers 24, 25 in the piston.
