692,808. Revolving radial-cylinder pumps. COX, A. F. Oct. 5, 1951 [Oct. 11, 1950], No. 24849/50. Class 102 (i). In a revolving-cylinder pump, the rotor B has one or more slots G in which are fitted pistons H. Each piston has slippers H<SP>2</SP> at each end which slide in grooves E', F<SP>1</SP> in side plates E, F. The sides H<SP>1</SP> of the pistons engaging the slots are part cylindrical in shape to ensure line contact during the rocking of the piston; the sides of the slots may be provided with wear resisting inserts G<SP>1</SP>. The circumferential length of each slipper H<SP>2</SP> is greater than the width of the slot G to prevent communications between the slot and the grooves E<SP>1</SP>, F<SP>1</SP> in each position of the piston. Spaces E', F' between the bottoms of the grooves and the slippers ensure communication between the spaces between adjacent slippers and also the interior of the rotor. The rotor is mounted within a sleeve A<SP>1</SP> having slots C,' D forming the inlet and outlet. To prevent vibration due to cavitation, the discharge side of the pump is connected by an adjustable spring-loaded valve K6 to a port K' that communicates with a pump cylinder as it passes from communication with the inlet to communication with the outlet. Alternatively a spring-loaded non-return valve and a throttle valve are arranged in series in this passage. In a modified construction the grooves E', F' are carried in an adjustable frame to vary the stroke of the pistons. Specification 673,715 is referred to.
