Abstract

Crank-actuated pumps; air vessels; indicating action of; regulating delivery by secondary piston in pump barrel.-A pump suitable for supplying fuel to a carburettor comprises one or two barrels 1 in which plungers 2 are reciprocated by a crank pin 19 through a slider 18 and a yoke 14. The delivery is controlled according to the difference between the pump output and consumption by means of a floating piston 7 which, during its movements in phase with the plungers 2, renders the strokes of the latter ineffective. These movements are regulated by a cam 5 which passes through a slot in the piston 7 and is connected to a spring-controlled piston 4 working in a cylinder 3 connected to the carburettor &c. The plungers 2 deliver through valves 12 and passages 11 to the cylinder 3, and any excess of delivery over consumption raises the piston 4 and cam 5, thereby increasing the stroke of the piston 7 and reducing the output to correspond to the consumption. The movement of the piston 4 may operate a consumption indicator.
