Abstract

199,585. Tutt, M. W., and Hulburd Engineering Co., Ltd. June 7, 1922. Single-acting piston pumps; pumps without delivery valves; crank-actuated pumps; valve-gear; valves, arrangement of.-Relates to a pump of the kind described in Specification 157,692, in which a piston b is operated from a crank-pin i by means of a slotted crosshead h and piston-rod g, and a piston a having lost motion on the rod g, is held stationary during a. part of the down and up strokes by cams m, l on the crank-shaft, the fluid being drawn from an inlet e and expelled through an outlet f by the relative movement of the plungers, and consists in providing means for varying the time during which the plunger a is held stationary. For this purpose the cams m, l are formed on separate superposed plates which are adjustably secured to a baseplate k by means of slots o and bolts p. The Figure shows the cam l adjusted to release the piston a before the piston b has risen sufficiently to expel all the fluid from between the pistons. The cam m can also be adjusted to permit descent of the piston a before a full charge has been drawn in between the pistons.
