Abstract

716,530. Reciprocating pumps. RICHARDSON, W. K. July 22, 1952 [July 26, 1951], No. 18537/52. Class 102 (1). A reciprocating pump comprises a pump cylinder 16 connected to an inlet pipe 19 through an inlet valve 20 and a stand pipe 12 through a delivery valve 18. A counterbalance cylinder 25 is connected by a pipe 23 to the stand pipe 12 at a point above the delivery valve 18. The pump piston 21 and counterbalance piston 26 are connected by rods 22 and 27 to a receptacle 28 for weights 29 which partly balance the head in the stand pipe. By this arrangement the force to reciprocate the pistons is divided between both strokes of the pump cycle. The rods 22 and 27 are connected by a member 30 which is actuated by a crank 36 through the connecting rod 34 and beam 31.
