Abstract

Crank and lever-actuated pumps; double - acting bucket pumps; two or more barrels in series; combined fixed and moving cylinder pumps.-A bucket pump for wells comprises a fixed barrel G and a moving barrel 7 in which pistons 16, 25 on a rod 24 are reciprocated by a crank rod 4 through linkwork 28, 29 pivoted on a fixed axis 30, while the barrel 7 is reciprocated directly from the rod 4 through two forked rods 6, so that the movement of the barrel is opposite to that of the pistons. During the downstroke of the rod 4, the barrel 7 and piston 11 descend and the pistons 16, 25 ascend, so that liquid passes up through the valves 10, 12 into the barrels 7 and 9, and liquid is drawn into the lower portion of the barrel 9 through the suction valve 17, while liquid above the piston 25 is forced through the port 13 to the delivery pipe 14. During the upstroke of the rod 4, the barrel 4 and piston 11 ascend and the pistons 16, 25 descend, so that liquid passes upwards through the valves 23 and 27, while liquid in the barrel 9 above the piston 11 is forced to the delivery pipe. At the same time liquid enters the barrel 9 above the piston 16 through valves 21 and ports 19.
