Abstract
506,604. Reciprocating pumps. BRADLEY, A. Feb. 1, 1938, No. 3161. [Class 102 (i)] A reciprocating pump, suitable for use at the bottom of the flow pipe of a deep well, comprises a fixed cylinder 2, formed by the end of the flow pipe, for a main single-acting piston 1 which has a sleeve-like extension 4 forming a moving- cylinder for an auxihary single-acting piston 5, the two pistons being arranged in succession in the direction of flow of the liquid and adapted for movement out of phase with one another by means of operating rods 11, 13 so that between them they effect the whole of the pumping, and the liquid pumped by the piston 1 passes through the cylinder 4 and through or around the piston 5, and valves for preventing return flow past the piston of liquid moved in the pumping direction by the individual pistons. Non-return valves 10, 14 are provided, with or without flexible cup washers 9 on the pistons, and the sleeve-like extension 4 may be constituted by a skirt forming part of the piston 1.
