Abstract

509,039. Reciprocating pumps. VARLEY, C. H., and VARLEY PUMPS & ENGINEERING. Ltd. Oct. 31, 1938, No. 26533/37. [Class 102 (i)] Pump pistons c', c<2> are actuated by levers l<1>, l<2> integral with a boss w<1> which carries levers k<1>, k<2>, having rollers j<1>, j<2> engaging cams h<1>, h<2> which are of similar shape and arranged 90 degrees out of phase with respect to the cams, the pistons c<1>, c<2> reciprocate 180 degrees out of phase with each other. A similar pair of pistons actuated in a similar manner are located adjacent those shown and the cams are shaped so that a constant delivery is obtained. Each piston adjacent the pistons c<1>, c<2> is 90 degrees out of phase with the piston c<1> or c<2> and the pistons have reduced portions n co-operating with ports s, t, u so that each piston serves as a slide valve for the adjacent cylinder. The cams have concentric portions so that the pistons remain stationary at the ends of their strokes. The valves are also provided with lap so that the pressure in the pump cylinders will reach delivery pressure before the valves are opened. The pumps may be supplied by a feed pump.
