[Class 102(i)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXIX] A reciprocating pump particularly for raising water from deep wells has its piston rod 38 connected to or formed integral with the piston rod of a fluid pressure motor 8 comprising two pistons 36, 37 reciprocable in co-axial cylinders 14, 15 with a valve chamber 16 disposed between them, through which the piston rod passes, pressure fluid inlet and exhaust passages communicating with the valve chamber and a distributing sleeve valve 23 disposed therein and held in either of two positions by a spring-loaded stop 41, the valve being moved axially from one position to the other by alternate contact with enlargements on the piston rod during its reciprocation for distributing the pressure fluid to and from cylinder spaces at the outer ends of the pistons. The motor pistons form the enlargements and act on the valve through springs 44, 44a and washers 45, 45a. The pump is double acting and comprises a large bucket 1 and a small piston 40 working in co-axial cylinders 2, 9, respectively. During the upstroke liquid enters the cylinder 2 through inlet valve 3 and part of the liquid which has previously passed through the bucket 1 will be discharged through outlet ports 11 whilst the remainder of the liquid which passes into the small cylinder 9 beneath the piston, will be discharged on the next downstroke. The swept volume of the cylinder 2 is twice that of cylinder 9. The delivering ports communicate with an outer casing 4, through which the liquid passes to a delivery pipe 5 which projects into the casing to pack an air vessel 7. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 specifies that the pressure fluid may be either elastic fluid or oil. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
