816,827. Reciprocating pumps. SCHIRRMACHER, E. June 27, 1955, No. 18556/56. Class 102(1). [Also in Groups XXVI] A reciprocating pump has a slide valve 26 of annular form displaceable on the piston 21 to control the flow of liquid through ducts in the piston. As the piston, which is driven by the connecting rod 24, moves to right, the pressure in the cylinder space G moves the valve to the left so that the annular groove 34 is connected to the exhaust port 32. The liquid in the cylinder space G then flows through the apertures 36 and the hollow piston rod 22 into the delivery chamber F. On the suction side, the annular groove 33 is in communication with the inlet port 29 and the liquid is drawn in from the chamber E into the cylinder space H. For the duration of the stroke, the check valve R is open and, when the piston reverses its direction and moves towards the left the check valve is closed and the liquid trapped in the cylinder space H is compressed until its pressure exceeds that of the liquid still in the space G so that the valve 26 is moved to the right. The annular groove 33 is then connected to the exhaust port 32 and the annular groove 34 to the inlet port 30 thus reversing the pressure and suction sides of the piston.
