Abstract
1450400 Reciprocating pumps ICI AUSTRALIA Ltd 17 Sept 1973 [22 Sept 1972 8 June 1973] 43475/73 Heading F1A A pump for supplying a liquid or gas at a constant flow-rate, e.g. for chromatographic apparatus, or metering liquid additive into a molten polymer stream for welt spinning fibres, comprises two pumps 28, 29 operating out of phase one pump performing its suction stroke and then operating at constant pressure against a closed delivery valve while the other pump effects its delivery stroke through an open delivery valve, the delivery valve of the one pump then being opened as the delivery valve of the other pump is closed, to provide a continuous pulse-less delivery, part of the force effecting the piston delivery stroke being provided by a fluid drive, e.g. a pneumatic piston motor 34, 35, and the remainder of the force being provided by a mechanical drive, e.g. a variable-speed electric motor-driven cam 26, 27 acting via the piston motor piston-rod, the suction strokes of the pump pistons being effected by the piston motors. Distributing valves 36, 37 for the piston motors are operated by a cam 38 driven by the pump cam electric motor. The pumps alternatively may be ram, diaphragm or bellows types, and may be hydraulically actuated.
