Abstract

1288522 Reciprocating hydraulic pumps and air motors OWATONNA TOOL CO 18 Jan 1971 [20 Jan 1970] 2266/71 Headings F1A and F1M An air motor-driven hydraulic pump comprises a pumping piston 38 connected to a motor piston 44 which is moved to the left by a spring 48 and to the right by air-pressure supplied via manuallyactuated valve 58 and passage 56. As piston 44 approaches the end of its rightward stroke, port 104 of channel 100 in the cylinder wall is uncovered by the piston and exposed to pressure at the left-hand end of the cylinder. The pressure is transmitted to chamber 70 of valve spool 84 via piston passage 72 and acts on larger spool end 86 to curve the spool to the left against the airpressure acting on smaller spool end 88. In its left-hand position, spool end 88 opens communication between the left-hand and right-hand ends of the cylinder via openings 80 and passages 74, 76, the right-hand end of the cylinder being connected to exhaust via passages 90, 92, 96 and muffler 98. During leftward movement of the piston by spring 48, passage 72 is isolated from the cylinder and the air trapped in the passage maintains spool 84 in its left-hand position. Towards the end of the leftward stroke, port 102 is uncovered by piston 44 to connect the spool end 86 to exhaust, and air-pressure acting on spool end 88 from passage 56 moves the spool to the right, as shown, for the next power stroke. Liquid enters pump cylinder 36 via inlet 22 and ball-valve 18 and is delivered via ball-valve 24 and outlet 30.
