Abstract

1379594 Reciprocating pumps MORRISON PUMPS Ltd 25 May 1972 [25 May 1971] 16770/71 Heading F1A An hydraulically actuated diaphragm pump comprises a pair of diaphragms in the respective housings 8 with actuating sides 9A, 9B and pumping sides 10A, 10B, the diaphragms being connected by a rod 7 which operates a pilot valve 6 controlling hydraulic supply and exhaust connections for actuating a spool valve 5 which changes over the supply and exhaust connections of the actuating sides 9A, 9B of the diaphragms. Spool valve 5 may be continuously hydraulically biased or spring-loaded in one direction and hydraulically actuated in the other, Fig. 2 (not shown). The pilot valve 6 may be a spool valve coaxial with rod 7 or linked thereto, Fig. 3 (not shown), or may comprise check-valves operated by a striker member on the rod, Fig. 4 (not shown). An electric motor 1 drives the actuating fluid supply pump 3 which delivers via a restrictor 18 to ensure pilot pressure priority via line 19 and to prevent full pressure being applied to an "empty" diaphragm during start-up. The pumping chambers communicate with inlet 11 and outlet 13 via check-valves 12 and 14.
