Abstract

1,161,981. Pneumatic motors; reciprocating pumps. OLIN MATHIESON Ltd. Nov. 25, 1966 [Nov. 29, 1965; Aug. 11, 1966], Nos. 50614/65 and 36013/66. Headings F1A, F1M and F1S. In a pneumatic motor the piston 55 is moved in one direction by springs 56 and in the other by pneumatic pressure controlled by a valve 60 which controls the connection of motor passage 58 to exhaust passage 64 and inlet passage 65. The valve 60 is controlled by fluid-pressure acting in chambers P, Q, R. A plunger 62 attached to the piston reciprocates in a bore 61 in the valve 60 and at one end of the stroke opens valve 67 to admit pressure to chamber R to move valve 60 to the left. At the other end of the stroke the plunger 62 releases pressure in the bore 61 so that the chamber R is vented to atmosphere and valve 60 moves to the right. The piston 55 may comprise a rolling diaphragm. The piston 55 is directly connected to a pump piston 2, as described and claimed in divisional Specification 1, 161, 982. In Fig. 3 the motor piston 55 also comprises a pump piston which draws through an inlet valve 87 and a valve 82 from a chamber 84 having a float 83 controlling the valve 82.
