Abstract

856,426. Reciprocating pumps. VARGA, J. M. J. March 28, 1957 [Jan. 4, 1956], No. 299/56. Class 102(1). A reciprocating pump comprises a cylinder 6 housing a piston 5 which is reciprocated by an eccentric 1 through a rocker arm 3 pivoted at one end 4. A reciprocating valve 15 is mounted at right angles to the cylinder 6 and is also actuated by the eccentric 1 through a double ended rocker arm 14 to control the inlet and outlet ports 18, 19 the two arms 3 and 14 contacting the eccentric so that the piston and valve move with a 90 degree phase difference. The pump and valve form a single unit which can be pivoted to vary the point of contact of the arm 3 and the piston axis to vary the stroke of the piston. Several such units may be arranged to be actuated by separate eccentrics on a common driving shaft.
