Abstract

464,734. Fuel pumps. BRYCE, Ltd., and THOMAS, A. H. J. July 31, 1936, No. 21260. [Class 102 (i)] In a pump for supplying a fuel-injection pump or a carburetter, the piston is operated on the suction stroke by hydraulic pressure and on the discharge stroke by a spring. The pump piston comprises a bell 15, which slides on the exterior of a block 13. Fuel is supplied to a bore in the block 13 by a passage 27, ports 35, and passages 36, 37, and a plunger 17 attached to the piston 15, is operated on onestroke by fuel trapped between itself and a cam-operated plunger 18. During this stroke fuel passes from a cylinder 6 to the interior of the piston 15 through a valve 42. This is discharged, through a passage (not shown) by the action of a spring 16, and simultaneously, the cylinder 6 is supplied through passages 38, 39. Excessive movement of the plunger 17 uncovers a groove 48, whereupon the fuel returns to suction through a passage 49. The pump can be primed by means of a hand-operated plunger 29.
