469,076. Grease guns. ZIMMT, E. R. (Hahn, H., and Fuhrmann, P.) Dec. 16, 1935, No. 34856. [Class 102 (i)] In a grease gun of the type in which a highpressure cylinder a, Fig. 1, is supplied by a coaxial reservoir d, the piston f of the reservoir is acted on by compressed air supplied by an air-pump incorporated in the gun. As shown, the cylinder a is secured in a sleeve 30 carried by the reservoir and the grease is supplied to the cylinder a through a passage 31 and the annular space between the cylinder a and the sleeve 30. An annular piston k moving in the space between the sleeve 30 and an outer sleeve m supplies air to the upper side of the piston f through passages 24, i. The high-pressure plunger b is forced into the cylinder a against the action of a spring 20 and carries an outer sleeve 19 which operates the piston k. In a modification air is supplied to the lower side of the piston f, and the grease is forced through the tube i to the cylinder a. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the high-pressure cylinder discharges to a space 43 and through a passage c having a ball-jointed extension 17. The pressure in the space 43 acts on a piston 15 connected to the air-pump piston k and effects the suction stroke of the latter, the discharge stroke being effected by a spring 13. The air is discharged past a sleeve-valve o to the lower side of the piston f, and the grease is supplied to the high-pressure cylinder through the annular space between a sleeve e carried by the lower cover of the reservoir d and a sleeve 1 carried by the reservoir. For refilling, the reservoir is unscrewed from the lower cover and is removed, together with the sleeve 1 and the high-pressure plunger b, which is operated by a handle p. In a modification the grease pressure effects the discharge stroke of the air-pump piston.
