[Class 102 (i)] Relates to grease guns of the type in which a high-pressure plunger 8 is attached to a piston 9 operated by air pressure and the suction ports 26 of the high-pressure cylinder are supplied with lubricant from a replaceable container 30 having a piston 33 which is exposed to air pressure. The compressed air is automatically supplied to the piston 33 when the container 30 is attached to the gun and, according to the invention, the container is secured by clamping, a screw joint being dispensed with. The gun is held by a handle 22 and operation of a lever 21 depresses a rod 17, having a valve surface engaging a seating, and so closing communication between a passage 19 and the atmosphere through a port 20. Simultaneously a stem 18 on the rod 17 opens a valve 15 and admits compressed air from a pipe 14 to the passage 19 and the piston 9. The air also passes by a passage 28 and through a pressure-reducing orifice and valve 37 to a hollow rod 34A and by ports 40 to the piston 33. A safety valve 39 is provided. The rod 34A screws into the body of the gun and carries a plate 41 which engages and secures the container 30. Clearance is left between the rod 34A and the hole in the top of the container to permit passage of lubricant by the passage 25 to the ports 26. In a modification the container 30 carries an external air tube which engages an air port on the pump body. In a further modification the container is enclosed in a casing on the pump body which is connected to the supply of compressed air. The bottom of the container is open to permit access of the air to the piston.
