Abstract
541,214. Valve gear for air compressors. HOLMAN BROS., Ltd., and MILLS, E. C. May 13, 1940, No. 8589. [Class 8 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] Distributing valve gear is located in a casing 12 at the end of the motor cylinder 8 and actuated by a rod 14 slidable in a wall passage and having projections 15 struck by the piston at the ends of its stroke ; the rod actuates a lever 21 carrying a pin which forms a pivot of a spring toggle which shifts the valve so that each end of the motor cylinder is alternately connected with compressed air supplied to the valve casing 12 and with an outlet passage 38 leading to the delivery chamber of a ventilating air compressor 6 actuated by the motor. The compressor has inlet and outlet valves in a laterally arranged chamber, it may be actuated by a handle 54 in the absence of pressure fluid for the motor, the valve casing being then opened to atmosphere by a relief valve. The valve actuated by the rod 14 may be a pilot valve actuating a piston distributing valve.
