Regulating and controlling compression.-In a compressor for air &c., a valve g is arranged to close against the back or inlet face of the seat b of an inlet valve a to restrict the output. The valve g is actuated by fluid pressure acting on a piston h in one with the valve against the resistance of a spring h. Alternatively the valve may be mechanically or electricallv controlled either by hand or automatically. It may be fitted to all the inlet valves of a single- or double-acting compressor. An additional automatic valve on the inlet may be dispensed with, or the above valves may be applied to one end of a compressor with a valve on the inlet in addition.
