Abstract
580,981. Fluid-pressure actuated valves. REAVELL & CO., Ltd., and MAYERS, T. T. April 14, 1944, No. 6912. [Class 135] . A valve for controlling the flow of cooling water to an air compressor so as to stop the flow when the compressor stops and to restore the flow on starting comprises a valve member m, controlling the flow from an inlet b to an outlet c, which is actuated by the air pressure on the bottom of a double diaphragm g, e. The water inlet pressure acts on the top of the diaphragm through a passage e<2> provided and the space between the two diaphragm members is vented to atmosphere through a passage f. In a compressor having a delivery type unloader and check valve the delivery line between the compressor and check valve is connected to the diaphragm chamber so that when compressor stops the pressure on the diaphragm is relieved and water valve closes. A small byepass passage t may be provided to keep a small amount of water circulating. In a compressor having a suction unloading device ' operated by an air relay a further piston valve x is provided which is acted upon by pressure from the said relay through a connection z when the unloading device is operated to move against a spring y to close a connection j<1> to the air receiver and open the diaphragm chamber to an exhaust passage 1.
