Abstract
487,908. Valves. PHILLIPS & POWIS AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and PARROTT, R. J. April 15, 1937, No. 10792. [Class 135] A non-return or like valve, particularly for a vacuum system of an aircraft or vehicle which is evacuated by an engine induction pipe or Venturi, or an exhausting pump, comprises a rigid disc-like valve member A supported by a yieldable diaphragm G which is held at its periphery between two parts of the valve casing. The valve member A has a central passage therethrough and presents an annular ridge B towards a resilient pad C mounted on the wall of the casing to control the flow of air from an inlet N to the outlet M connected to the suction apparatus. The inlet pressure acts on the top of the diaphragm to open the valve against a spring K, an abutment R limiting the movement, whilst the outlet or return pressure acts on the underside of the diaphragm to close the valve.
