Abstract
534,514. Vacuum engines. TRICO PRODUCTS CORPORATION. March 5, 1940, No. 4104. Convention date, Aug. 3, 1939. [Class 122 (iii)] A suction-operated device such as a windscreen wiper is connected by a conduit 23 to a valve casing also having a connection 22 to a vacuum, pump and a connection 38 to the inlet manifold of an internal-combustion car engine. The connection to the manifold is controlled by a valve disc 26 of non-metallic flexible waterproof material which is lifted from its seat, when the inlet vacuum is high enough, into contact with studs 39 between which the air flows. An atmospheric port 40 above the valve suffices to prevent passage of fuel vapour from the manifold to the vacuum pump. The valve is supported centrally by a hub 29 at a lower level than that of the peripheral valve seat.
