Abstract
1410973 Gas turbine engine fuel supply systems LUCAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 Jan 1973 [19 Jan 1972] 2526/72 Heading F1G The invention relates to a drain tank for a gas turbine engine or combustion engine in which means in the form of an ejector pump are provided to return fuel from the drain tank back to the fuel system. The system shown in Fig. 1 comprises a drain tank 14, a boost pump 13 which takes fuel from a tank and discharges it through ejector pump 9 to a high pressure pump 12 which supplies fuel through a metering unit 11 to a gas turbine engine 10; fuel drainage from the pumps, engine and metering unit to the drain tank 14 is indicated by broken lines. The ejector pump casing is connected to the drain tank and communicates therewith through inlet 17. Flow of fuel from the drain tank into the fuel system is controlled by a non-return valve 18 which is spring-loaded against a valve seat 24 and by a float-controlled valve 19 which also co-operates with the valve seat 24. The valve 19 is pivotally mounted on an arm 20a which is itself pivotally mounted and carries a float 20 at its free end. The float-controlled valve 19 ensures that no air will be drawn into the fuel system when the fuel level in the drain tank is below a certain level. In Fig. 2 a float 123 is disposed within a casing 124 disposed at the bottom of the drain tank 114 there being openings 125 in the casing. A valve member 120 is mounted on an arm 121 which is pivotally mounted at one end and has a claw at its other end which engages a flange formed on the float 123. The valve member co-operates with an opening in a valve seat 118. A non-return valve 119 also co-operates with the opening in the valve seat.
