Abstract

1,218,536. Spray carburetters. GENERAL MOTORS CORP. Aug. 14, 1969 [Aug. 28, 1968], No. 40655/69. Heading F1B. A pressure responsive valve 18 in a chamber 13 connected to the float-controlled inlet 4 and the bottom opening 14 of the float bowl 1 is operable in response to the static pressure in the bowl, when no fuel is being pumped thereto by the pump 8, to open the port 17 to the opening 14. With the port 17 open fuel flows from the bowl 1 back to the tank 6 through the electrically driven centrifugal pump 8. When the pump 8 is in operation fuel flows from the chamber portion 13" to the portion 13' through one or more apertures 19 in the valve 18, the pressure difference between the chamber portions causing the valve to open the port 17, for flow to the bowl through the opening 14. A diaphragm or plunger pump with a by-pass to allow fuel flow back to the tank when inoperative may be used. The diaphragm valve 18 may be biased to close the port 17 by a spring.
