Abstract

1,258,956. Diaphragm pumps. A. PIERBURG AUTO-UND LUFTFAHRT-GERATEBAU K. G. Aug. 12, 1969 [Sept. 5, 1968], No.40238/69. Heading F1A. In a diaphragm pump comprising a diaphragm 15 and a separating wall 22 having inlet and outlet annular lift valves 29 and 31 respectively and housing members 10 and 17 supporting the wall and diaphragm, the wall has an annular raised portion surrounding the inlet valve which seals with a shoulder 25 on the housing 17 either directly Fig. 4 (not shown) or by means of a seal 24 thus dividing the space bounded by the housing 17 and diaphragm into suction, pumping and delivery chambers 32, 33 and 34 respectively. The shoulder 25 is formed between upper 19 and lower 18 parts of the housing 17, the upper part carrying an inlet nozzle 37 and filter 36. The diaphragm is actuated by a rod 11, reciprocated by a cam, which acts via a spring 14 to drive a collar 13 attached to the diaphragm; the spring prevents damage to the diaphragm. In another embodiment Fig. 4 (not shown), the housing parts 18 and 19 are formed separately and joined together below the level of the inlet nozzle, and the wall seals directly against the shoulder which is formed on the part 18.
