Abstract
1315094 Reciprocating pumps TAMAGAW KIKAI KINZOKU K K 20 April 1971 [28 Jan 1971] 10154/71 Heading F1A A liquid-piston pump for slurry comprises an oil column in pumping chamber 18 reciprocated by a piston 2 and acting on slurry 17 at inter-face 19, a chamber 14 in the slurry pipe 6 being of greater volume than the displacement volume of piston 2, and of an internal configuration such that the slurry flowpath cross-sectional area is abruptly changed, to cause vortices in the slurry during pumping to prevent settling of solids, and to prevent entry of air into the pumping chamber. Perforated baffles may be provided in chamber 14, Fig. 2 (not shown). Pipe 6 communicates with inlet 12 and outlet 13 via check valves 10, 11.
