Abstract
1,163,329. Compressors. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Dec.28, 1966 [Dec.31, 1965], No.57853/66. Heading F1N. A diaphragm 4 having a thickness gradually increasing from its periphery to its center portion 12 is reciprocated by liquid in a chamber 35 to pump gas in a working chamber defined by the other side of the diaphragm and the opposed surface of a valve head 3, and the centre portion 12 is drawn by a spring 18 away from the working chamber whereby during a working stroke the diaphragm is forced by the liquid into contact with the head 3 progressively from its periphery to its centre portion. The progressive contact prevents gas pockets from being formed between the diaphragm and the head 3. The liquid in the chamber 35 is supplied through a connection 5 and is forced against the diaphragm by a piston 6 reciprocated by a cam 43 against a return spring 7. A poppet valve 37, 41 is normally urged by a spring 38 to close a sealing in a bush 36 disposed in the piston 6, but if the pressure in chamber 35 becomes excessive, the valve opens to relieve liquid to the connection 5.
