764,928. Diaphragm pumps. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Dec. 3, 1954 [Dec. 30, 1953], No. 35056/54. Class 102(1) [Also in Group XXIX] A diaphragm pump comprises a variable volume chamber 24 formed between a fixed base plate 14 and a flexible diaphragm 22. Inlet and outlet check valves 80 (see Group XXIX) are provided at the ends of the variable volume chamber. The space outside the diaphragm is bounded partly by pistons 38, 40 which, when reciprocated, cause the diaphragm to move outwards and inwards alternately and so suck fluid into the chamber 24 through the valve at one end and then discharge it through the valve at the other. The pistons are reciprocated from gearing 54, 52 through connecting rods 48 and bell cranks 42
