Abstract

637,589. Reciprocating pumps. AMES CROSTA MILLS & CO., Ltd., and BOLTON, J. F. March 14, 1947, No. 7107. [Class 102(i)] A flexible pumping tube 35 is mounted in a casing 33 and is flexed by the pulsating pressure in an intermediate liquid in a chamber 29, the pressure being applied by an impulse diaphragm 25 the movement of which is limited by perforated plates 20, 22. The diaphragm 25 is reciprocated by secondary liquid in a chamber 18 to which a pulsating pressure is applied by a piston 11. The reservoir 11x for the secondary liquid is connected to a port 13 and the range of movement of the piston 11 is varied to adjust the volume of liquid pumped by the tube 35. The piston 11 is fitted with relief valves 16, 17 opening in opposite directions. In a modification, Fig. 3, the pressure applied to the secondary liquid is controlled by a second piston 61 moving between stops 62, 63, the stop 63 being adjustable.
