Abstract

688,777. Flexible - chamber pumps. MERRILL, I. N., and MERRILL PUMPS, Ltd. June 26, 1951 [June 27, 1950], No. 15977/50. Class 102 (i). Two flexible tubes 11 are mounted within adjacent chambers 14 which are supplied with a pulsating liquid pressure to pump liquid from inlet 38 to outlet 39 through valves 17; a cage comprising rods 18 is arranged within each tube. The device for producing the pulsating liquid pressure comprises two pistons 20 attached to the ends of an oscillating rod 21 actuated by a connecting rod 30 from an electric motor. The space 34 is connected to the space 35a by a passage and both spaces connected by port 37 to one of the chambers 14; similarly, spaces 34a. 35 are connected to the other chamber. A reservoir 22 is arranged between the pistons and ports 32. 33 in the pistons align with ports 31 at each end of their strokes so that the pressure of the operating liquid is equalised with the pressure in the reservoir at each end of the stroke. The tubes may be arranged in parallel or in series.
