Pumps with reciprocating and oscillating piston. - In a valveless pump having a reciprocating and oscillating piston 9 controlling inlet and delivery ports 8, 7 in the cylinder wall, the piston is divided into four vertical chambers 10 - - 13, of which the chambers 10 - - 12 are open at the top and closed at the bottom, while the chamber 13 is closed at the top and open at the bottom. During the upstroke of the piston, one of the chambers 10 - - 12 is open to the delivery port 7, and the chamber 13 is open to the inlet port 8. At the end of the stroke, the piston has been rotated to bring the chamber 13 into register with the port 7 and one of the chambers 10 - - 12 into register with the port 8. During the downstroke, the liquid below the piston is delivered, and fresh liquid enters the space above the piston from the port 8. In another form, the piston is divided into six chambers, of which three are open at the top and closed at the bottom, while three are closed at the top and open at the bottom. In another form, the piston is divided by a transverse partition with three chambers above and three below. The above arrangement of chambers is designed to equalise the pressure of the whole periphery of the piston.
