Abstract

401,765. Pumps. CROSSLEY, SIR K. I., and CARTER, H. D., c /o Crossley Bros., Ltd., Openshaw, Manchester. May 26, 1932, No. 14940. [Class 7 (ii).] A two-stroke-cycle compression-ignition engine is charged by a pump in which two or more pistons a, b, are operated by a single connecting rod. Piston a has a cylindrical extension h in which the pin m is pivoted ; it may be withdrawn through openings n in the casing member i by turning the connecting rod k after detachment from the crank pin, through a right angle. Inlet and outlet valves are superposed in a cylindrical receptacle o in the pump casing. Outlet valves rare adjacent to each other and have a common delivery chamber s. An inlet valve t is disposed beyond each outlet valve with an intervening space u leading to a port v in the pump cylinder wall. Spaces w beyond or between the inlet valves serve for air inflow. The movable parts of the valves are spring-loaded rings 3, each associated with a guard plate 4, all mounted around a central spindle x. A handgrip x2 facilitates withdrawal of the valves as a unit, and stops 5 serve for positioning purposes.
