Abstract
413,960. Pumps. BUCHI, A., 20, Salstrasse, Winterthur, Switzerland. Dec. 16, 1933, No. 35497. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1932. [Class 7 (ii).] The air charge is supplied by a combined pump and motor which uses only the first high-pressure part of the engine exhaust, the remainder passing to the atmosphere. As shown, a rotary, sliding-vane type machine 6 receives the high-pressure exhaust from a pipe 17 with non-return valve 32. A blower 23 on one side and an extractor 25 on the other prevents the exhaust passing to the upper side of the machine 6 and also supplies the air to be compressed. Relief valves 27 limit the compression pressures, and a non-return valve 34 is placed in the delivery pipe. All the exhaust passes out by a common outlet 21. Each machine 6 may be used with one or more cylinders or with a double acting engine. The inlet and delivery may be on top of the machine which may be arranged with its shaft vertical ; means are provided for water cooling. The inlet to the cylinder may be through two sets of ports 30, 35, the flow to the upper ports being through a non-return valve 36.
