Abstract
542,799. Air compressors. WEAVER, W. A. June 21, 1940, Nos. 7196/40 and 7680/41. [Class 8 (i)] A compressor comprises a pair of horizontally opposed cylinders a, 34, cylinder a being that of an internal combustion motor and cylinder 34 receiving air to be compressed, through an inlet 38 leading from outside the plant. A pump g geared to the common crankshaft supplies cooling water to engine spaces d, e and compressor spaces 66. The compressor may be compound, the second stage being fed through a valve 46 to a transfer passage 44 with a safety valve 50, and to a receiving chamber 51 with an inlet valve 54 ; high pressure air is delivered past a valve 60 to an outlet 64. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement of inlet and outlet valves in a cylinder head, part 28 of the outlet passage being formed in a plug embodying a valve guide.
