Abstract

162,464. Scott, A. A. Feb. 25, 1920. Valves.-A rotary inlet valve opening into the crank case in which the charge is compressed, for example as described in Specification 1290/15, is mounted in a valve seating which is adjustably held in position by a detachable cover. A manifold for the inlet and exhaust passages is also described. The valve 7 rotates within a seating 5 which bears at 4b against an annular flange 4a on the crank case and also against a flange 7a on the valve. The seating is held in position by a cover 10 and screw 12. The valve is driven by a crank pin 8 engaging a radial slot in the flange 7<a>, and is formed with a partition 7<g> inclined so as to deflect the gases entering at 5a into the crank chamber. The valve seating is made of softer metal than the valve, so that the valve, due to its own weight, follows up the wear in the seating around the inlet 5<a>. The space between the cover 10 and valve seating 5 forms a suction chamber into which the inlet port 11 opens laterally, and the inlet and outlet ports 11, 14 lie within the width of the cylinder and its housing.
