Abstract

298,171. Bryant, J. April 5, 1927. Movable-abutment type.-In an internal-combustion engine with cam driving-gear the cam is used as the rotor of a compressor. In a multicylinder engine each cam 7 works as above; the common crank case is closed and connected to a carburettor 18. Each cam is driven by rollers 13, 14 carried by the piston gudgeon 8 and by a rectilinearly moving link 10. Each cam works between walls 20a, 20b forming the compressor chamber, which is open at one side to admit mixture and at the other side to form the delivery outlet. In a modification a piston 30, Fig. 4, is driven by the cam being connected to the gudgeon 12 on the link 10. The cam acts as a compressor as described above and is assisted in its action by the piston 30 to force the charge through the delivery valve 33. Specification 276,774, [Class 7 (ii), Internal-combustion engines, Arrangement &c. of], is referred to.
