Two-stroke-cycle engines; driving-gear; cylinders, mounting, ports and combustion chambers for. - A two-stroke-cycle engine comprises an enclosed cylinder into the ends of which a pair of pistons d draw, through non-return valves g, e, air and combustible mixture which they then compress and deliver through transfer passages l, i and ports l<1>, j to the combustion space between the pistons, the port l<1> being opened first. The exhaust port is at m. Alternatively air may be compressed at both ends and liquid fuel injected into the combustion space. The main shaft o<1> is enclosed within a sleeve o and carries discs having cam tracks r<1> which are driven by rollers s<1> on cross-heads connected to the pistons. Each cam-track is formed by circles which intersect each other and are arranged so that the shaft rotates every two or more power strokes of the pistons. The engine described comprises three cylinders which are mounted in an inclined position as shown.
