Abstract
1343201 Charging two-stroke engines; driving gear for piston pumps E C WENZEL 19 April 1971 [3 March 1970] 22921/71 Heading F1B An I. C. engine comprises power and air charging cylinders 10a, 10b, 10c, Fig. 7 having pistons driving a crank-shaft 22 through a lever system consisting of the piston rods 10e, 10g, 10i inter-connected at their outer ends 28, the air charging piston rods 10i also being operatively connected intermediate their ends to the crankshaft so as to function as second order levers. Eight cylinders are arranged in a common plane as coaxial pairs with a corresponding air charging cylinder to each pair. Air or mixture is drawn into the air charging cylinder 16c, Fig. 12 through non-return valve 48 and supplied to two power cylinders 10a, 12b of other pairs through a non- return valve 50 and conduits 66a, 66b. Air or mixture enters the cylinders through inlet ports 40 and exhaust gas leaves via exhaust ports 42. Mixture is ignited by a spark plug 66 or fuel is injected by an injector 68 when the engine is operated as a diesel engine. The engine may be water cooled.
