Abstract
1291914 I C engines; charging and scavenging two stroke engines DOXFORD & SUNDERLAND Ltd J F BUTLER J W JORDAN and F ORBECK 27 May 1971 [19 June 1970] 29951/70 Heading F1B An opposed piston two stroke I.C. engine with pistons connected to separate cranks on a single crank-shaft has exhaust driven turbochargers 26, 27 at each end of the engine, one driven by exhaust leaving the cylinders from one side of the engine 10, the other by exhaust leaving from the other side 11. Scavenging and combustion air is admitted under pressure to the cylinders through ports at or near one end of the cylinder walls and exhaust is from ports (2), Fig. 2 (not shown), at or near the other end of the cylinder walls. Each cylinder is surrounded by an exhaust manifold arranged to direct exhaust from the ports at the said one side of the engine towards the said one end of the engine and to direct exhaust from the ports at the other side of the engine to the other end of the engine.
