Abstract

602,310. Two-stroke engines. WIGMORE, R. May 31, 1944, No. 10488. [Class 7 (ii)] In a double-acting two-stroke engine a double-headed piston g, h reciprocates over a fixed piston d and compresses the charge on either side. The compressed charge is transferred by grooves j, k in a guide c, e which is fixed to a detachable cylinder head b, and carries the fixed piston d and on which the double-headed piston g, h slides. Inlet and exhaust ports s are formed on the cylinder wall. The double-headed piston is connected to the crankshaft by a hollow piston rod m which is surrounded by a packing p and slides on the guide e. The gudgeon connecting the piston rod m to the connecting rod is removable through a hole in the crankcase closed by a screwed cap, the cylinder assembly being then removable as a unit.
