Abstract

397,742. Cylinders. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.- (Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nurnberg Akt.- Ges. ; Nuremberg, Germany.) Dec. 19, 1932, No. 36014. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi).] In a two-stroke gas engine, gas is admitted under pressure through valves 13, 14 immediately after exhaust ports 5, 2 are closed by the piston, combustion and scavenging air being previously supplied through ports 4, 3 by a pump having a capacity greater than, and preferably 1À3 times, the stroke volume of the engine, the pump preferably being of the centrifugal type and electrically driven. Supercharging may be effected by extra air ports 44, 45 controlled by rotary valves 46, 47, or by rotary valves in the exhaust passages. The valves 13, 14 are operated from the same cam on a shaft; arranged at the side of the cylinder, and rotated at crank-shaft speed.
