Abstract

511,456. Two-stroke engines. TAYLOR, C. B. Feb. 24, 1938, No. 5812. [Class 7 (ii)] In a two-stroke engine having in a single cylinder oppositely moving pistons which drive a crank shaft 14 through rocker levers 11 the mixture enters through a central port controlled by a rotary valve 13 and the exhaust ports are controlled by the pistons. The levers 11 are mounted in bearings in webs 7a cast on the upper part of the crank shaft. According to a modified construction, there is one cylinder above and one below the crankshaft the pistons in opposite cylinders being connected to the same throws of the crank-shaft. There may be several blocks of cylinders side by side. The engine may operate with compression ignition or with spark ignition.
