Abstract
730,554. Two-stroke engines sealing crankchambers. EHRLICH, J. Sept. 27, 1950 [Sept. 27, 1949], No. 23686/50. Class 7(2). A combustion chamber 24 common to parallel inlet and exhaust cylinders 10, 11 of unequal bore is shaped, and dimensioned relative to the cylinders, substantially as shown to have a Venturi effect and increase the velocity of crankcase-compressed combustible mixture passing into the smaller cylinder 10 through transfer ports 22, pistons 21, 13 respectively controlling the ports 22 and exhaust ports 23 being so connected to a single crankpin by means of a rod 17 or rods that the exhaust piston 13 slightly leads the inlet piston 21. The rod 17 has a sliding bearing in one gudgeon pin 20. The lower edge of the piston 13 controls a crankcase inlet port 28. Sealing means 27 prevent leakage past the crankshaft main bearings 26.
