Abstract

656,421. Two-stroke engines; valves. PARKER, G. Jan. 6, 1949, No. 350. [Classes 7(ii) and 7(vi)] In a two-stroke internalcombustion engine comprising a sleeve valve B in which the engine piston F reciprocates, the valve B alone controls the exhaust ports J, whilst the inlet ports L are controlled by both the pistons F and the valve B, the latter being connected directly to the crankshaft D so that it serves as a second piston and imparts to the crankshaft at least one-sixteenth of the total power output of the engine. The valve B is of sufficient radial thickness to carry piston rings.
