Abstract

776,220. Pistons. LIST, H. June 28, 1955 [July 2, 1954], No. 18603/55. Class 122 (1). In a two-stroke internal combustion engine with piston-controlled intake and exhaust ports lubricating oil consumption is reduced by supplying scavenging air from the intake ports 5 through an axial conduit 12 in the piston 4 to an annular groove 11 provided in the piston adjacent the oil scraper rings 9, 10. The axial conduit 12 may be provided by a local flattening of the piston in the vicinity of an intake port or by an axial groove. The annular groove 11 may be located a small distance above the top oil scraper ring or, as shown in Fig. 5, an annular groove 11 is provided above each oil scraper ring 9, 10, the grooves communicating with each other by a passage 12.
